Sohui Yun, Viola

Eunsung Lee

Born in South Korea, Korean violist SoHui Yun is currently pursuing her doctorate degree at Stony Brook University. Prior to coming to the United States, she attended the Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts and earned her bachelor’s degree from the Korea National University of Arts (KNUA) with a full scholarship, where she studied with SoonWha Oh and Hanna Lee and graduated with highest honors. She earned her Master’s degree at New England Conservatory with Dimitri Murrath and post-graduate studies at Curtis Institute of Music with Roberto Diaz and Artist Diploma in Chamber music at San Francisco Conservatory of Music with Dimitri Murrath.

She has participated in the Music@Menlo, Olympic Music Festival, Perlman Music Program, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival, Great Mountain International Music Festival and School, Tongyeong International Music Festival, Chamber Music Connects the World and Ravinia Steans Music Institute and Lucerne Festival. She was also invited to the Anchorage Music Festival as an artist. She has collaborated with Miriam Fried, Tabea Zimmermann, Marcy Rosen, and Steven Isserlis.

She has also won several awards, including the First Prize at the Washington International Competition, Special Prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition and First Prize at the GMMFS Concerto Competition. She also won the concerto competition at Stony Brook University and San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and will perform with the orchestra in 2024.

She has performed in the Rising Stars Series and played with the orchestra at GMMFS as the winner of the Concerto Competition. She also played a solo recital at Kumho Art Hall, TLI Art Center, Ilshin Hall, Elim Art Center and KNUA Hall in Korea. and performed with the Oakland Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra of Moldova Tele-Radio and the Guri Philharmonic Orchestra at one of Korea’s main concert halls and toured Korea as a member of Sejong Soloists.
