CHIEF AUDIO ENGINEER

DESCRIPTION: Stony Brook University is seeking a full-time Chief Audio/Video Engineer to join the dynamic Music Department at SUNY’s flagship institution. This key role supports faculty and students in all aspects of audio/video recording, live streaming, concert production, and education. The engineer leads the recording and streaming of major concerts and faculty events, oversees a team of graduate assistants handling recitals and chamber performances, and helps shape the department’s future growth. 

The Engineer coordinates audio and video concert support in consultation with the Director of Concerts/Music Events Office and supervises graduate assistants, as well as catalogues and tracks a large inventory of audio and video gear. The position requires knowledge of classical music, recording and sound-reinforcement techniques, audio/video internet streaming, and the ability to communicate effectively and timely with faculty, staff, and our high-level, pre-professional graduate student body.

Responsibilities also include recommending equipment purchases, the acquisition and installation of new equipment, support and trouble-shooting for general classroom technology as needed, as well as maintaining equipment in venue recording spaces, and the analogue and computer-music studios. Ideal candidates will support a dynamic, creative community of performers, scholars, and composers.

Position Type: Full-Time 
Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000
