About: Violins at Stony Brook

The graduate violin program at Stony Brook provides a unique opportunity for students to engage with faculty who encourage critical thinking and musical creativity, allowing students to develop a healthy practice and performance mindset.

What sets Stony Brook apart from other schools is that students in the graduate program have the freedom to work with all four members of the award-winning violin faculty. From in-depth score analysis to personalized performance discussions, our highly esteemed faculty present numerous approaches to solo, chamber, and orchestral studies, aiming to inspire students to challenge themselves and to develop their own musical identity.

Students are welcomed into a supportive and creative environment which nurtures each  musicians’ abilities to their fullest potential.

Lessons are tailored to students' individual needs and career aspirations. Opportunities are given to nurture talent through many performances and through curriculum not found at any other school, including the Emerson String Quartet Institute and the Contemporary Chamber Players. The flexibility of Stony Brook allows students to pursue their careers while simultaneously fulfilling their graduate requirements.
