Committee Goals and Pillars
- The goals of the CoB Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) committee are to increase and promote diversity among students, faculty, and staff, and to create an inclusive culture for students, faculty, staff and alumni of the CoB.
- The three pillars of the DEI committee are outreach, representation, and inclusion. For each pillar, we aim to create relevant programmatic initiatives, including student activities and campus life, curriculum development, and faculty and staff recruitment and development. We also strive to work with campus partners in related areas to promote related SBU initiatives.

Julie Huang, Committee Chair
Associate Professor, Marketing
Julie Huang is an Associate Professor in the Marketing Area. She received her PhD in Psychology from Yale University and was a postdoctoral fellow in the marketing department at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. Dr. Huang's research focuses on how people perceive others to be pursuing goals (or not), and the consequences of these goal-related judgments on the targets. This theoretical and empirical work has been published in top-tier behavioral science journals, including Behavioral and Brain Sciences, Psychological Science, the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, and Social Psychological and Personality Science.

Denise Buhrau
Associate Professor, Marketing
Denise Buhrau received her Ph.D. from Tulane University in 2010. She conducts research on consumer behavior, particularly in the context of health behaviors. She focuses on topics such as planning and goal pursuit, health communication, and the role of temporal orientation in decision-making.

Margaret Echelbarger
Assistant Professor, Marketing
Margaret Echelbarger is an Assistant Professor in the Marketing Area. Dr. Echelbarger
is committed to demystifying the hidden curriculum and promoting student success,
particularly among students historically excluded from academic spaces. She regularly
writes about doctoral and tenure track experiences through her newsletter Let’s Talk Grad School, which has over 1,300 subscribers, and hosts and participates in professional development
workshops through major organizations such as the Society for Personality and Social
Psychology and the Society for Judgment and Decision Making. Her efforts to democratize
the academy have been recognized by the Society for the Improvement of Psychological
Science.
Aqueelah Speakes
Executive Assistant to the Dean of the College of Business
Aqueelah Speakes serves as the Executive Assistant to the Dean of the College of Business. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management, graduating Magna Cum Laude, from Farmingdale State College. Currently, Aqueelah is pursuing a Master's degree in Human Resources Management at Stony Brook University. Aqueelah brings a wealth of experience to her role, having spent five years as an Administrative Professional and two years as the Affirmative Action Officer for Farmingdale State College before joining Stony Brook University. Outside of her professional endeavors, Aqueelah is an active member of the American Society of Administrative Professionals and the Society for Human Resource Management. She is passionate about continuous learning and professional development, striving to stay abreast of the latest trends and best practices in her field. Her diverse background and dedication make her an integral part of the College of Business team.
