Classics at Staller

The Classics at Staller brings together the full spectrum of classical music available at the Staller Center for the Arts, from world-renowned performing artists to the vibrant performances of the Stony Brook University Department of Music. The Staller Center presents several acclaimed, ticketed performances year-round and, through a close, collaborative partnership, also supports and elevates the Stony Brook Music Department’s hundreds of free concerts and events. Here at Staller, we're proud to present a dynamic and accessible classical music experience for the entire community.

The Staller Center for the Arts presents recurring classical series throughout the year, including the Emerson Legacy Series, Starry Nights, the Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra, and the Stony Brook Opera

​The Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra (SBSO) is the premier ensemble of the Stony Brook University Department of Music, uniting exceptional students and faculty. Each season at the Staller Center for the Arts, it performs programs ranging from classical masterworks to contemporary works, often with guest artists and conductors, offering inspiring and accessible live orchestral music.

Emerson Legacy Series

The Emerson Legacy Series celebrates the enduring impact of the Emerson String Quartet, longtime artists-in-residence at the Stony Brook University Department of Music. Building on their decades of artistry and mentorship, the series showcases exceptional chamber music performances by distinguished alumni, faculty, and guest artists, honoring the quartet’s legacy while continuing to inspire new generations of musicians and audiences.

Starry Nights

​​​Starry Nights at the Staller Center for the Arts is an intimate concert experience that brings audiences closer to exceptional classical musicians. Curated by Artistic Director Colin Carr in collaboration with the Stony Brook University Department of Music, the series features distinguished faculty and rising student performers. Set in a relaxed setting, Starry Nights offers a deeper, more immersive connection between artists and audiences.

THE MET OPERA: Live in HD

The Metropolitan Opera Live in HD at the Staller Center for the Arts presents high-definition screenings of acclaimed Met Opera productions. These transmissions feature world-class opera singers and bring grand opera to audiences with stunning clarity and immersive sound. Presented throughout the season, they offer audiences accessible, high-quality opera. Tickets available starting in July.
