How to Apply
Applying to the Simons STEM Scholars program is simple! You first apply to your major of choice at Stony Brook University, and then via the honors tab of your student portal, fill out the three essay questions for our program. All three essay questions can be found on the Application Roadmap section on our website.
You may still apply to the other honors programs at Stony Brook as well as the Simons STEM Scholars program, you will only be able to be a part of one program however. The only exception to this rule, is that students can be both a Simons STEM Scholar, and a Scholar for Medicine at SBU.
Step 1: Check admissions criteria
To be eligible for the Simons STEM Scholars program you must be a high school senior
or academically equivalent and entering your freshman year of college on the traditional
timeline (ie; not transferring from Stony Brook or another institution into the program).
Scholars must have at least a 3.0 or an 87 on a 100 Point scale. Students must have
a personal commitment to increasing diversity and inclusion in the STEM fields. Students
must have a strong interest in research and a research based career. It is preferred
that students have documented leadership and community service experiences.
