REGINA CARTER:
REVERSE THREAD
Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 8:00 pm
Recital Hall - $38
RenaissanceJazz sponsored

In
Reverse Thread, world-renowned jazz violinist Regina Carter plays African
folk melodies re-imagined, making music that’s jazzy and beautiful. By adding an
accordion and kora, the West African harp traditionally played by village
storytellers, Ms. Carter has found the perfect complement to her sumptuous
sound. Some of the music from her album Reverse Thread is based on field
recordings of singing by Ugandan Jews, other pieces layer the rhythms of African
music with harmonies from India and Puerto Rico.
Whatever the source of inspiration, each work is better than the one before,
resulting in a new and uplifting experience like no other.
