COLIN CARR
SIX SUITES FOR
UNACCOMPANIED CELLO
Saturday, April 21, 2012 at
8:00 pm
and Sunday, April 22, 2012 at 7:00 pm
Recital Hall - $42
A rare musical experience takes
place at Staller Center when Colin Carr, virtuoso cellist and
artist-in-residence, performs all six Bach Cello Suites in two concerts over two
days.
Pablo Casals launched the Bach Cello Suites’ popularity in the 1930s and since
then, master cellists, including Rostropovich and Yo-Yo Ma, have followed with
their own interpretations, taking on the music’s complexities and challenges.
The Six Suites for
Unaccompanied Cello by Johann Sebastian Bach as played by Colin Carr will be
an event classical music lovers will not want to miss. As Eric Siblin wrote in
his 2009 book, The Cello Suites, “Musically, the future success of the
Cello Suites hinges on their survival skills. And if the past is any indication,
the odds are heavily in their favour. Endurance and timeless relevance are
woven into the very fabric of the music.”
Your ticket includes a reserved
seat for both concerts.
