YASMIN LEVY
SEPHARDIC SOUL
Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 7:00pm
Recital Hall - $38
Israel’s Yasmin
Levy, a rising star in world music circles, has mesmerized audiences everywhere
with her deeply spiritual and moving renditions of songs from her Judeo-Spanish
heritage. Following in the footsteps of her musicologist father, Yitzhak
Levy, she is a champion of Ladino, Sephardic Jews’ ancient language now facing
extinction. Her program will include Sephardic classics, modern selections that
are infused with a Flamenco feel, songs with Turkish influences, and self-penned
songs inspired by her own experiences. The accompanying musicians on classical
guitar, duduk, clarinet, zurna, electric upright bass and percussion are leading
instrumentalists from Israel and Europe. |
