Boasting a 14-year history as a solid, working unit, The Tierney Sutton Band has headlined Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, Jazz at Lincoln Center and packed New York City’s legendary Oak Room in one of its most critically acclaimed and commercially successful runs. A Grammy nomination for Best Vocal Jazz Album, as well as scores of dedicated fans, speak to the band’s success in creating music that is at once elegant, provocative and spellbinding.

With renditions of “It’s Only a Paper Moon,” “My Heart Belongs to Daddy,” “Whatever Lola Wants,” and “Skylark,” Sutton explores temptation and materialism. She and her fellow musicians—pianist Christian Jacob, bassists Trey Henry and Kevin Axt, and drummer Ray Brinker—take a philosophical and spiritual approach to standards and bring freshness to all their songs. Staller Center is delighted to bring them to Stony Brook this season.
