Emerson String Quartet TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2009 AT 8:00 PM Recital Hall - $42 The Emerson String Quartet stands alone in the history of string quartets with an unparalleled list of achievements over three decades: thirty acclaimed recordings produced with Deutsche Grammophon since 1987, eight Grammy Awards (including two for Best Classical Album, an unprecedented honor for a chamber music group), three Gramophone Awards, the coveted Avery Fisher Prize, and cycles of the complete Beethoven, Bartók, and Shostakovich string quartets in the world's musical capitals, from New York to London to Vienna. Violinists Eugene Drucker and Philip Setzer alternate in the first chair position and are joined by violist Lawrence Dutton and cellist David Finckel. As Quartet-in-Residence at Stony Brook University, the Emerson brings three concerts a season to Staller Center. For its first concert, the Emerson will present tribute to Haydn and Mendelssohn. The program will include Haydn’s “Seven Last Words” and the Mendelssohn Quartet in F minor, Op. 80. (October 13 was formerly the “All Czech” program) Buy tickets early since the Emerson concerts sell out quickly.
Program subject to change.
