New Century
Saxophone Quartet
Sunday, January 28, 2007
at 3:00 pm
Recital Hall - $32
The New Century
Saxophone Quartet is
“doing for saxophones
what Casals did for the
cello and Segovia, the
guitar.”
Spectator
(Raleigh, NC.)
The group extends
the boundaries of
chamber music with
an exciting repertory,
ranging from the “Art
of the Fugue” by J.S.
Bach to innovative
contemporary works.
Winner of First Prize in
the Concert Artists
Guild Competition, the
New Century
Saxophone Quartet
has been heard at
major concert venues around the world, including two command
performances for President Clinton at the White House.
The Los Angeles Times noted: “Tackling brave new territory in
the conservative-leaning realm of classical music takes
a unique blend of conviction, refined talent and a bit of damnthe-
torpedoes ambition. Those qualities are amply in evidence
with the New Century Saxophone Quartet.” Come enjoy the
smooth, lustrous tones of the New Century Saxophone Quartet,
which includes Michael Stephenson, soprano saxophone;
Christopher Hemingway, alto saxophone; Stephen Pollock, tenor
saxophone; and Connie Frigo, baritone saxophone.
Also scheduled: a free pre-concert lecture at 2:00 pm in Staller's
Recital Hall.
