to Billie Holiday and
the music of her era,
drawing on Carter’s latest
album Gardenias
for Lady Day. James
Carter will "blow the
house down" as he
and the other musicians
in his band
are joined by Miché
Braden, the accomplished
vocalist on
Gardenias. A hot
baritone saxophone
player who has
mastered the whole family of reed
instruments, James Carter and his Quintet are gaining a reputation
for grabbing a wide following
for America’s only indigenous
art form - jazz. Carter has
performed, either live or
in the studio, with the
Lincoln Center Jazz
Orchestra, the Charles
Mingus Big Band, Aretha
Franklin, Sonny Rollins and
many others.
