Emerson String Quartet has been called "the most exciting American
string quartet of its generation" (The New York Times) and Stony Brook
University is fortunate to have them as Quartet-in-Residence in the
Department of Music. Their first concert will be an all-Mendelssohn
program: Mendelssohn Pieces for String Quartet Op. 81, Fugue and Toccata,
Andante and Scherzo; String Quartet No. 5 in
E flat Major Op. 44 #3; String Quartet No. 4
in E minor Op. 44 #2. The quartet includes
Eugene Drucker, violin; Philip Setzer, violin;
Lawrence Dutton, viola; and David Finckel,
cello.Their extensive recordings have been
on Deutsche Grammophon since 1987.
For over 25 years, their perceptive and
expressive performances have taken them
to leading concert halls the world over.
